Why change course now?

Our country suffered a terrible shock on 9/11. On that horrible day, what could we have foreseen in our future?  Had our great nation suffered a fatal blow?

Thankfully we had elected a President who had chosen an outstanding cabinet.  Together they knew the right course to take.

The people that we had elected went to work. They didn’t require glory, rather they put the pedal to the metal and went after the terrorists. They cut off their funds, went to war in Afghanistan and Iraq and got our enemies on the run. Unlike Clinton, Bush didn’t need to be the center of attention. He and the many people in his government remained in the background, working hard and keeping our country safe.

The Democrats at first demonstrated some sort of cooperation but soon they perceived that this President just might be too successful. They went on the attack and haven’t stopped since.

Bush tried to work with them but they blocked him every step of the way. They called him a liar and even worse, they undermined his efforts to fight terrrorism.

Now, five years after 9/11, without any help from the Democrats our economy is humming.  We have the lowest unemployment in decades, the stock market is at all time highs, our taxes have been reduced and more people own homes than ever before.  We are on offense against the terrorists and we’ve not had another attack on our soil.

We’ve had it pretty good since 9/11.  Maybe we have forgotten. We survived the worst that could happen and now we take things for granted.

Many think that a change in course is what we need. Is it what we need or a tremendous gamble with unforseen consequences?

Republican Quitters

Some Republicans are touting the non importance of the upcoming elections. They claim that it won’t matter if Republicans stay home and don’t vote, in fact it might be a good thing.

The argument goes something like this. If the Democrats regain control in November, it will teach the Republicans a lesson and our Party will then become stronger. The loss of majorities for our party will force the Republicans to be more conservative. The Democrats won’t have much power because their majorities will be small and Bush will be there with his veto pen and will finally have a chance to use it.

Many analogies are being used to support this position or to debunk it. Football analogies seem to be among the favorites. Therefore let me try my own. I apologize if it has already been used by someone.

Let’s say that my football team has won every game of the season, but they have made mistakes and haven’t played up to my expectations. We are down to the final game and I decide that they don’t deserve to win, so I don’t care if the game ends in a tie or if they lose. I will even go so far as to sit with the other team’s fans and root for them. I think that everyone would agree that this would be ridiculous.

I pray that my fellow Republicans who are thinking this way might reconsider the folly of such an approach. Losing is never winning. Loss of momentum can be crucial. This could be the most important election in our history.

BrianR at http://viewfromtheisland.townhall.com/ in "On War and Party Politics" writes that Democrat control would not be a problem, after all we survived Jimmy Carter. The caveat in his piece is "barring terrorist deployment of a true WMD."

That is the problem.  If the Democrats gain control and begin investigations of the Bush administration we will lose focus on the war on terror and the Democrats, with the MSM or their side, will have momentum in the 2008 elections.  Then we could get another Jimmy Carter. If we don't stay on offense against the terrorists, they might well deploy a WMD on our soil.

Could we survive that?

The October surprise

October has been the deadliest month in Iraq for our soldiers since the beginning of 2006.  If we were wondering what the October surprise would be, now we know.

The terrorists were able to influence the elections in Spain with an attack just before their elections.  President Aznar, who supported the war in Iraq and was favored to win reelection, lost and subsequently Spain pulled their soldiers out of Iraq.

The terrorists have not been able to pull off another attack on our soil as they did in Spain, so how can they influence our elections?  By killing as many U.S. soldiers as possible and making sure that those numbers are reported daily in our media.

One terrorist organization even went so far as to send a tape to CNN of snipers killing our soldiers.  And, CNN played the tape on air! They showed a view of a soldier through a sniper’s lens and then faded to black just after the gunfire was heard and before the soldier dropped to the ground.  The tape contained the killing of ten of our soldiers by snipers.

It is no secret that the Democrats and the MSM are opposed to the war in Iraq. If the Democrats gain control of the House or the Senate, or both, they have made it clear that they will begin investigations of the Bush Administration’s conduct of the War, and will call for immediate deployment of our troops out of Iraq.

The terrorists have a large stake in the outcome of our elections.  The bloody October surprise is their way of voting.

The polls are not handed down by God!

Why is everyone so sure that the polls are correct and that the Republicans are going to lose big in 3 weeks? Even Republican pundits are down in the dumps saying that it is inevitable.

Let’s stop and remember Florida 2000, when the networks called the election for Gore, based on the exit polls.  I remember how calm Bush was, saying that his internal polls said something different.  Many people went home and didn’t vote after Gore was declared the winner.  The results, the closest election in our history and the long, long recount.  If Republican voters hadn’t given up so easily, we might have been spared that nightmare.

What about 2004?  All afternoon the radio talk show hosts were trying not to show their dismay.  All of them knew that Kerry had won in a landslide.  The exit polls said so.  When the Brit Hume Show came on late that afternoon, the Fox "all-stars" were all frowns and looking like they’d just lost their best friend.  Once again, the exit polls (which are supposed to be the most accurate of all polls) were wrong!

OK, so now the MSM has decided to abandon any presumption that they are unbiased and are in full gear to help get the Democrats back in control.  As usual they are trying to suppress the turnout on our side.  Poll after poll has discouraging news for Republicans.

When are we going to learn our lesson?  The polls are not handed down by God!  They are no longer reliable.  They are manipulated and used by the MSM.  As in the past, Bush and Karl Rove have different results from their internal polling.

Let’s trust ourselves and get out and vote and let nothing deter us. The safety and future of our country are too important.  Our leaders are not perfect, but they are on our side!

Has Democrat opposition to the War in Iraq created more terrorists?

Democrats and the MSM have been accusing President Bush and Donald Rumsfeld of creating more terrorists. I think that the question should be turned back on them. Ever since the Democrat mantra "Bush lied, people died," and the anti war movement started gaining steam, the war in Iraq has gotten progressively more difficult.

Could it be that the terrorists have become emboldened by the fact that half of our country does not believe that we should have ever gone into Iraq? A win for the terrorists in Iraq would be gigantic. They would claim victory over the U. S., set up their government in Iraq and peace in the Middle East would be a long gone dream.

The terrorists see that they and the Democrats are on the same side of this issue. As the elections in November get closer, more bodies of tortured Iraqis will be found and splashed onto the headlines. Bush’s popularity then shoots to historic lows and the Republicans can say goodbye to winning and keeping control of the House and the Senate.

There are still about 25 days until the election. How many bodies will they find today, tomorrow and the day after? Yesterday, gleefully, the MSM published the number of Iraqis killed during the war. The number is being challenged by the White House and the Iraqi leaders. That doesn’t matter, what matters is that the media get the Democrats back in power. More dead Iraqis and American soldiers helps that cause.  More terrorists helps that cause.

The Democrat election slogan should be "You go, terrorists!"

Should Hastert resign?

Today it has been revealed that Denny Hastert has offered to resign if it would help the Republican Party. Would it help?

Republicans are clearly divided on this issue. Many want the entire House leadership to resign. Would that help the current situation?

I’m not sure that it would. The Democrats would have gotten what they wanted and then would use this against Republicans saying "see that proves that they are all guilty." The Democrats are going to continue to use this issue no matter what. I hope that they do overplay their hand as some suggest that they will.

It is pretty disgusting to hear the Democrats saying that they are the party that cares about protecting our children. If they care so much, why don’t they help to pass tough laws that put child molesters behind bars and keep them there? Why don’t they support the death penalty for the perverts that sexually molest children and then kill them?

It is a horrible situation all around. Some say, who cares about the Republican Party? They should all step down. Clearly someone dropped the ball on the Foley issue. But should we now just fold our tents and all go home? Let the Democrats win because someone in our party failed to see the handwriting on the wall?

The question remains. What do we do now?

I, for one, will not give up. I will vote in November for my local Republican representatives and will not give Democrats the moral high ground because they don’t deserve it.

Is this selective moral outrage?

Sean Hannity asked that question today on his show regarding the scandal involving Mark Foley.  In addition, Hannity asked several other important questions: Who had this information? (Some suggest that it has been known for 3 years by the people that released it.) Did the media and the Democrats sit on this information so that they could get the maximum damage value at this point in time?

It is important to know the answer to these questions because now, of course, the morally outraged Democrats want the entire Republican leadership to resign. I believe that anyone who knew about this information and kept it hidden until now should resign. Republican or Democrat. But the question remains, who knew about it and who kept it from the public until now?

The other part of the question regarding selective moral outrage, would take us back to the Clinton years when none of the Democrats were outraged over Bill’s behavior towards the many women who came forth with accusations, and no one in his administration resigned over the lies that were told by everyone who covered up for Clinton for many years going all the way back to his governorship in Arkansas.

One could also ask why the Democrats were not morally outraged when they were in the leadership in 1983 and Jerry Studds, Democrat from Massachusetts, was caught having sex with a 17 year old Page. The Washington Post called the entire matter a "witch hunt" and said that this didn’t mean disqualification from office. Studds was censured by the Democrat leadership and during the censorship ceremonies, Studds received three standing ovations!

Where was the moral outrage from the Democrats when Congressman Barney Frank was caught with a prostitution ring running out of his apartment? In 1989 The Boston Globe said that no investigation was needed because the activity didn’t have any relation to his work.

Finally there is Congressman Mel Reynolds who was caught on tape talking to a 16 year old girl in which the Congressman says that he wants to have sex with three girls, one who was under the age of 15 and when he found out that she attended a Catholic School, he said "did I win the lotto?" Reynolds did go to jail, but was pardoned by Clinton as he left office.  Why weren't the Democrats morally outraged by that?

I think that all of these questions and facts brought up by Hannity today need to be addressed.

The Democrats are enraged by the moral lapses of Mark Foley.  He has resigned, as well he should have.  Why has it taken them so long to come around?
