One phrase jumped out at me in Obama's speech
in Berlin yesterday. He introduced himself saying, "I know that I don't look like the Americans
who've previously spoken in this great city."
Mr. Obama's statement presumes that people in Europe have
never seen a black American in a position of power. I hate to break this
to Mr. Obama, but two of the most powerful people in the world, Colin
Powell, our former Secretary of State, and Condaleeza Rice, our current
Secretary of State, are black Americans. Both have traveled the world,
meeting and negotiating agreements with Heads of State from every
country. They have never presented themselves as looking different
from other Americans. Either one of them could run for President of the
United States if he or she chose to.
So, Mr. Obama, try to win the Presidency by the content of your character, not by the color of your skin.
